Winslow Studio was approached by the Portland Trail Blazers to develop new concepts for an impactful opening of the 2018 NBA Playoffs. The biggest factors of limitation were time constraints for setup & breakdown, and guest visibility.
Our resulting concept involved deploying a quick-release cylindrical centerpiece that would serve as a canvas. Augmented by 360º projection, the installation showcased roto-scoped content from season highlights, bold typography, dynamic ring motion graphics, and synchronized PixMob bracelet animations throughout the entire audience. The grandeur of the installation allowed players to run onto the court in front of their towering avatars, creating an exhilarating atmosphere.
To realize the vision, Winslow Studio was brought on as Creative Director, working alongside the Trail Blazers' talented in-house production team. Meyer Pro, one of our regular partners, determined projector placements, media system setups, and timecode synchronization. ACME fabricated a custom 36-foot tall screen equipped with a custom 2-stage kabuki drop system. PixMob provided 20,000 programmable light bracelets, enhancing the immersive experience.
While the Trail Blazers' journey in the playoffs that season ended prematurely, the projection installation captivated the audience and brought everyone together, creating an impressive testament to an ambitious season.
