Brilliant!
Brilliant! is a mesmerizing immersive experience that transcends time, inviting viewers to embark on a captivating journey through the vibrant history of Las Vegas. This project combines modern technologies with a deep desire to preserve and extend the stories of the past. Through state-of-the-art augmented reality and meticulous digital restoration, Brilliant! serves as a timeless homage to vintage Las Vegas, evoking a sense of time travel and capturing the essence of the city's evolution.
The technical aspects of Brilliant! were meticulously designed to create an immersive and authentic experience. Custom-designed twenty-foot-tall towers house high-resolution projectors that deliver 360-degree video projections, enveloping viewers in the nostalgic ambiance of vintage Las Vegas. Structured light scanning ensured precise alignment to thousands of bulbs and tubes, enhancing the visual display. The augmented restoration workflow utilized drone footage and photogrammetry to faithfully recreated the worn and broken signs, while animation software and custom programming brought their flickering and illumination to life. Spatial music and 3D directional audio further immerse viewers. With continuous updates and collaborations, Brilliant! remains a fresh and dynamic representation of Las Vegas' cultural heritage.
Content Upgrades
Brilliant! has continuously evolved since its 2018 launch. In early 2019, a Tim Burton exhibition called Lost Vegas brought a temporary transformation to Brilliant!, incorporating Burton's vision with elements from the exhibition, footage from his Las Vegas-inspired movies, and a performance by Brandon Flowers of The Killers.
The highly anticipated 2021 update, Jackpot, introduced a new 'Jackpot' system, expanding the experience into thematic timelines triggered by chance. With fifty-four song possibilities and remastered historical footage from The Neon Museum and the Las Vegas News Bureau, Jackpot immerses visitors in an unpredictable journey, celebrating the captivating history of Las Vegas and pushing the boundaries of immersive projection experiences.
To mark the release of Brilliant! Jackpot, Winslow Studio recreated a number of classic Las Vegas roadside billboard designs. These vibrant designs were brought to life through pop-up projections on a billboard located just outside of Las Vegas, with the kind permission of the Moapa Band of Paiutes.
