Fast Feels Like
For the 2025 Boston Marathon, we led projection design for an Adidas performance logo at the entrance of their running studio, and development for "Fast Feels Like," an interactive LED wall art installation. The interactive platform for “Fast Feels Like” was accessible via a simple QR code that directed users to a custom website where they could submit their responses and names. Each submission was dynamically added to a large projection and LED screen wall, creating a captivating photo opportunity. The process began with the projection typing out the individual's response before integrating it into the larger display. As more submissions were added, a unique mosaic formed, representing the diverse meanings of "fast" to the runners.
The bespoke backend efficiently gathered, filtered, and aggregated submissions and names for this visually striking, user-friendly installation. It was meaningful to see participants proudly share their thoughts on display. A message queue and custom admin settings (animation hold times, submission management) ensured a curated event. Mobile submission provided a seamless, zero-barrier participant experience.
The three-stripe logo that greeted visitors at the entrance was projection-mapped from within a wrapped pipe structure. To prevent shadows from guests, we precisely angled two ultra-short throw projectors. Our setup, boasting a combined 10,000 lumen brightness and high-gain projection paint, ensured the animations remained visible even in the bright window daylight of Newbury Street.
Above the logo, a custom ticker counted down to the marathon, displaying days, hours, minutes, and seconds. On the final day, it shifted to include milliseconds. Guests frequently commented on the impending race, and their nervous excitement and energy were palpable in the space.
